I'm trying to decide what to think of Google's decision to self-censor search terms that the Chinese government is uncomfortable with for Chinese internet users. In the meantime, while I reflect, enjoy this graphic:

For the record, Murdoc is not necessarily opposed to all self-censorship everywhere. It's the decision on what to self-censor and why to do so that matters. It tells you a lot about who it is that you're dealing with. Although some like to pretend otherwise, there are sides. And they matter.
Instapundit is a good starting point for this issue.
Murdoc likes Google and wishes that the decision had been different. And wonders why others aren't using this against Google. You'd think that Microsoft would be trumpeting Google's bad decision to promote MSN Search, for instance.
Oh.
Well, Yahoo, then.
UPDATE: TallDave nails it:
Aren't we overreacting? I mean, it's not like they're enabling the oppression of a billion human beings by a Communist dictatorship that has killed 50 million people.

So does a search on "Democracy" or "Freedom" direct you to Mao's home page?
Funny how they're prepared to fight against the US government's invasion of privacy but they have no problem kowtowing to Communist dictators. Just like Microsoft.

MO Comments Policy: I make it up as I go along
Basically, I don't mess with them unless you're out of line or spamming. The definition of "out of line" is 'whatever Murdoc feels is out of line' but is generally limited to truly hateful stuff.
Don't make a fool out of yourself.
