Oriskany “scheduled to be sanked”

Gulf of Mexico (March 22, 2006) - The decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA 34) is towed from the Intracoastal Waterway to Allegheny Pier on board Naval Air Station Pensacola. Known as the “Big O,” the 32,000-ton, 888-foot Oriskany is being delivered to the air station while it is being prepared for its final journey. The ship is scheduled to be sanked 22 miles south of Pensacola in approximately 212 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico May 17, 2006, where it will become the largest ship ever intentionally sunk as an artificial reef. Somone needs to mention that an unnamed government agency is using the Big O as the final resting place for some super secret experiment or maybe aliens. We need to get a good conspiracy story going - that way we can prop up the local scuba industry & maybe finance some science missions to ‘debunk’ the rumor.

So, I’m assuming you’ve never made a grammatical mistake or a linguistic faux pax? Pretty funny though. I believe Mr. Doty, and those who supposedly reviewed and released the photo and caption, missed one here. Even the best goalies allow one to go in now and then. 99% of the time, I’d wager, the Navy’s captions are on-the-money.

JR: Me? A grammaticish error? Fauxbid the very idea! (Actually right after I posted that I had to fix a spelling error in an earlier post. But that sort of thing happens two or three times a day, tops.) I’m just funning. I was already posting the pic when I noticed the ’sanked’ and thought it was hilarious.
