Blade Runner HD DVD

24 May 2007

On DVDFile:

And here is arguably the most highly-anticipated DVD/HD DVD/Blu-ray release of the year: Blade Runner: The Ultimate Edition. According to an Australian retail site, the five-disc box set will include the new 2007 ‘definitive cut’ of the film, as well as the 1982 theatrical version, the 1982 international theatrical version, the 1992 director’s cut, not to mention the full-length documentary on the making of the film, an entire disc devoted to featurettes and then the super-hard-to-find ‘work print’ version of the film. Again, if this is really going to happen this year, an official studio announcement from Warner Brothers should be en route soon, so we’ll keep you updated as confirmed facts and figures come in.

Murdoc hasn’t made the move to high def yet. Probably at Christmas.

That’s a great movie. I wish I had an HDTV.

  2. AW1 Tim Says:

Dfens, Concur. Bladerunner has to be one of my top 5 films. There is so much cool stuff going on, and the background detail is very neat, well thought out. It’s hard to find much wrong with it. Respects,

  3. GeekLethal Says:

It would have been OK to include a copy of ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’ amongst the 5-6-7 DVDs in the Ultimate Boxed Set. Just sayin’.

  4. buckethead Says:

GL, that would just confuse people.

  5. Harold C. Hutchison Says:

Hmpf… I just got the third installment of File A56-7W. Plus, I got an MLBTV subscription… and will be qwatchin’ Ryan Braun’s debut tonight.

  6. Fred Kiesche Says:

Can Blu Ray or other HD DVD’s be played on plain ol’ boring DVD players (with lesser picture quality, of course)?

  7. thebronze Says:

Balde Runner? Man, I thought you were talking about a porno…

  8. GeekLethal Says:

  9. Dfens Says:

Now you see why the spelling in everything I write is so bad. I don’t pick up my own typos any better than I do Murdoc’s. That is a good one. I think putting a blu ray disk in a conventional DVD player would be like putting a DVD in a CD player. It wouldn’t know what to do with it.

  10. KTLA Says:

Fred: Some HD-DVDs are combo discs that also have a regular DVD layer in them, and can be played in plain old DVD players, but I do not know if Blade Runner is one of them. I do not believe Blu-Ray has this capability, just one reason I’m in the HD-DVD camp for this format war. :-)

  11. Murdoc Says:

Umm, ooops… C’mon folks. That typo was up there for almost 24 hours. Throw me a frikkin’ bone, will ya?
