U.S. Destroyer Bombards Somali Base
At least one U.S. warship bombarded a remote, mountainous village in Somalia where Islamic militants had set up a base, officials in the northern region of Puntland said Saturday.
The attack from a U.S. destroyer took place late Friday, said Muse Gelle, the regional governor. The extremists had arrived Wednesday by speedboat at the port town of Bargal.
The war is being fought in many places in many ways. Sometimes we hear a little about some of the places and methods.

Not battleships, but littoral ships! This is their environment.

The Islamist thank you for decommissioning everything except pea-shooters and never mentioning them again.

I don’t see why they used Naval artillery when they could have just called in some F-22s to drop some small member bombs (SMB).

Dfens, heh… that is teh funny…. F-22’s….. :) Like the USAF would deign to fly below 10K unless it’s a photo-op. Respects,

Come on, you don’t think they’re chomping at the bit to put Precious in harm’s way? Next you’ll be telling me that after 26 years of development their entire avionics sytem will crash unrecoverably in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Oh wait, it did, didn’t it? The weapons keep getting smaller because we’ve replaced General Patton with General Pussy!

Navy ships used guns? but but I thought that naval firesupport was an outmoded concept, replaced by cruise missiles and the deadly F-18 super hornet. I guess I was wrong. Anyway I am certain those Islamic militants are cowering over the awesome firepower displayed. You know those shots could cause permanent hearing loss…

If it has ’super’ in its name you know it has got to be good. It’s so ’super’ it could have probably flown back in time and killed their grandparents.

Dfens, ‘Ultra Hornet’ sounded too sci-fi; ‘Mega Hornet’ too ’90s; ‘Extreme Hornet’ too marketroid; ‘Stupendous Hornet’ too silly; ‘Fucking Awesome Hornet’ clearly made-up… I mean, what was left but ‘Super’?

GeekLethal, How about Hornet II? Or maybe Hornet ModII? Respects,

Hmm, I thought that was what F/A stood for… You learn something new every day.

Actually, if they had a Cyclone retrofitted to carry Netfires missiles, the destroyer could have been in a position to do something more suited to its capabilities.
