Is that an MG36, the squad automatic weapon version of the G36 assault rifle? Or is it something else? I thought that only a few MG36s were built.

Somebody straighten Murdoc out.

And lots more photos at GunPundit.

It looks more like an M240 with a carry handle attached to the upper rail to me. However, it’s a bit hard to tell with the image that size and I’m not really an expert on these matters.

    Clearly a phase plsma rifle.

You know it’s too bad that you have a capable, motivated force like the Bundeswehr but it has so little to actually do.

Or more accurately, there is so little it is allowed to do.

I googled around a bit and now think it’s probably an MG43, typed MG4 by the German army.

    See it here.

    Yep – M43. I like the M21E and M23E’s better – closed bolt. http://www.hkpro.com/mg43.htm

MG4 is the German army designation for the H&K MG43.
