A quick summary, including a comprehensive Q&A list, of the proposed broadcast flag solution to digital piracy of television content. It’s not perfect, but does anyone have a better idea?
The story notes
But entertainment companies have to remember that we are their customers, not their adversaries. There are things I want to do with content that makes it worth the money: Take these things away, and I’m less willing to pay.
Moreover, my needs are not static: I’m busy, and I’m not willing to consume things only when they’re offered to me or in the way they’re packaged. VCRs, TiVo, portable music players, CD burners and the like have taught me I don’t have to.
I believe that there’s a happy medium in here somewhere. I’m also expecting people to prove me wrong.
