    Wasn’t the surge directed against the Sunnis and Shia? North Iraq is the Kurds who were supposed to be pro American from day one.

    I don’t know the proximity of this battle, but maybe that’s why the US wants out of North Iraq.

    Well…………I’ve been back in Iraq since late June (it’s still the garden spot of the middle east in case your were worried). Two things that are really noticeable from when I left in June of ’09. Lack of Mil Specs in the area (still a few around), nothing but us contractor scum left, and our divine DOS overlords. And……….a large percentage of the few MRAPs still sporting around have CROWS on them now, as opposed to the manned turrets they all used to have. Cool!
