You mean a bunch of film protesters didn’t just happen to be armed with automatic weapons and RPGs?

Consulate attack in Libya said twin operation

BENGHAZI, Libya — Heavily armed militants used a protest of an anti-Islam film as a cover and may have had help from inside Libyan security in their deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate, a senior Libyan official said Thursday.

As Libya announced the first four arrests, the clearest picture yet emerged of a two-pronged assault with militants screaming “God is great!” as they scaled the consulate’s outer walls and descended on the compound’s main building…

The attacks were suspected to have been timed to coincide with the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist strike in the United States, el-Sharef added, with the militants using the film protest by Libyan civilians to mask their action.

  1. It was a well-planned op. I’m suspicious that the film itself was made or dubbed-over by the MB or AQ themselves to get the mob properly frenzied.

  2. Libyan bona-fide mobs have more than enough advanced torches-and-pitchforks to do the job. But someone had mortars ready and knew where the secret-hidey-spot was. Am suspicious too re: that aspect.

I don’t get the impression that MB or AQ was involved in the dubbing; but someone was very intent on spamming publicity about the film in Egypt on Sept. 11; as I hear the tale it was claimed that most Americans were watching the film as part of commemorations…I had not heard of it until things were already on fire. It flew in under the radar so to speak.
