I apologize for the light posting. Work blah, blah, blah.
Here are a few quickies to try and keep at least a couple of readers during the lean times:
Anti-gun activist arrested after firearm found at home: Not only a handgun with a scratched-off serial number, but drugs. Authorities obtained a warrant to search as part of an investigation of recent drive-by shootings (in which no one has been injured):
Stevens said she believes the search warrant was obtained illegally. She said no drugs were found in her home. And as for the gun, she admits to having it in the house. But she said it belonged to her son. She didn’t find it until six or seven months after he died. Not knowing what to do with it, she wrapped it up, put it in a drawer and forgot about it.
I’d say her credibility has taken a slight hit. (hat tip to a reader)
Should the UN Be Lord of the Oceans?: This is something that has troubled me for some time, though I don’t think I’ve written about it before. I’ll quickly admit that I don’t know enough about it to have a fully-informed opinion, but it doesn’t look like it’s a good thing at all. I don’t understand why Bush supports it. What am I missing? (also via a reader)
2 Members of Hussein Tribunal Are Assassinated in Baghdad, Baghdad car bombs kill 10 Iraqi troops: This won’t be the last time, either. And the Iraqis know it. Yet they continue the process. Why? Don’t they know there weren’t any WMD?
U.N. peacekeepers kill up to 60 militia in Congo: There are too many problem spots in Africa to keep track. But since I usually bash the UN for not doing anything I wanted to point this out as a possible incident where UN forces fought back.
DAILY LEBANON ROUNDUP: Just because I haven’t been writing about it doesn’t mean that I’m not keeping an eye on Lebanon. I remain skeptical, but with so many nations in the region seeing pro-democracy demonstrations, at least some good must come of it.
(Also keep an eye on Instapundit, who’s constantly pointing out Lebanon stuff.)
Five years (minutes?) from now we’re going to be hearing how this was about to happen anyway, since brutal dictatorships and medieval societies were bound to come around sooner or later, and that George Bush and the invasion of Iraq had nothing nothing nothing to do with any of it. Just like Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of the Iron Curtain and the Soviet Empire.
Remember how stupid Reagan was for calling the USSR the “Evil Empire”? And how stupid Bush was for naming an “Axis of Evil”? What idiots.
Speaking of the Axis, my pessimism over popular revolution in Iran might be shifting a bit. We’ll see how things go in Iraq and Lebanon over the next few months, but July 9th might be a big day in ol’ Persia this time around.
