They must have been using the magazines with the blue tape from DIE HARD 2…

Photos Of Giuliana Sgrena’s car

Whoever was manning that checkpoint needs to go through basic marksmanship again. The first time I saw that picture today I couldn’t figure out what was circled and I blew it off. Upon looking at it again I realize that it’s a bullet hole.

One. Single. Bullet. Hole.

Pitiful. 300-400 rounds and only a couple of hits?

Or maybe Sgrena’s full of it.

I haven’t mentioned any of the theories that she may have faked the entire kidnapping. I haven’t mentioned that CNN keeps screwing up, changing, and then screwing up again with quotes and such. I haven’t mentioned that if US soldiers really wanted her dead she would be D-E-A-D.

And I especially haven’t mentioned that Italians seem to be getting nabbed more and more often since the they started paying ransoms.

But this whole thing just plain stinks. If that is the real car, her story is crap. If her story is crap, I’m wondering if the media will give it the coverage they did when it was US soldiers doing the wrong thing.

  1. I haven’t mentioned any of the theories that she may have faked the entire kidnapping.’ Have you heard of the theories where Kennedy was assasinated by republican conspirants. Have you heard of the theory where the Americans didn’t actually land on the moon. Have you heard of the theory where Elvis is still alive. Theres a lot of theories out there, and I am sure you would not be trying to make a valid point by starting out with the line ‘I haven’t mentioned any of the theories……’

  2. Here’s an article I found today which might just add fuel to the ‘Faking the Kidnapping’ theory: ITALIAN REPORTER GIULIANA SGRENA! Mr. Harald Doornbos is a veteran war reporter. He is no archetypical hawk nor a staunch supporter of the United States. In fact, he used to be a reporter for the communist newspaper ‘De Waarheid’ (The Truth, or Pravda, if you like) before it went bust. (This doesn’t necessarily mean he was ever a communist, by the way. De Waarheid used to be a huge employer.) However, this doesn’t make him overly sympathetic towards Giuliana Sgrena, the Italian journalist who was held hostage by Iraqi insurgents. The following are some snippets from an article, which was published today (March 8th) in a Dutch Christian broadsheet newspaper. ‘Be careful not to get kidnapped’, I told the female Italian journalist sitting next to me in the small plane that was headed for Baghdad. ‘Oh no,’ she said. ‘That won’t happen. We are siding with the oppressed Iraqi people. No Iraqi would kidnap us.’It doesn’t sound very nice to be critical of a fellow reporter. But Sgrena’s attitude is a disgrace for journalism. Or didn’t she tell me back in the plane that ‘common journalists such as yourself’ simply do not support the Iraqi people? ‘THE AMERICANS ARE THE BIGGEST ENEMIES OF MANKIND’, the three women behind me had told me, for Sgrena travelled to Iraq with two Italian colleagues who hated the Americans as well. (Doornbos goes on to explain how the women demeaned him for travelling as an embedded reporter with the US military, for security reasons. They didn’t want to hear about any safety concerns.) ‘You don’t understand the situation. We are anti-imperialists, anti-capitalists, communists,’they said. The Iraqis only kidnap American sympathizers, the enemies of the Americans have nothing to fear. (Doornbos tells them they’re out of their mind.) But they knew better. When we arrived at Baghdad Airport, I was waiting for a jeep from the American army to come pick me up. I saw one of the Italian women walking around crying. An Iraqi had stolen her computer and television equipment. They were standing outside shivering, waiting for a cab to take them to Baghdad. With her bias Sgrena did not only jeopardize herself, but due to her behavior a security officer is now dead, and the Italian government (prime minister Berlusconi included) has had to spend millions of euros to save her life. It is to be hoped that Sgrena will decide to have a career change. Propagandist or MP perhaps. But she should give up journalism immediately.

  3. They should have coordinated the pickup with the US military, which would have given them an armed escort to the airport. Or, they could have called the A-Team. But, noooooooooo …, they consider the US military the enemy.

  4. The american military would’ve been happy to escort her out of the country, ransom or no. Like we need a communist that sides with the Iraqi terrorists muddying the waters.

  5. Jeff: Well, I’m not harping on those theories. I realize that some of them are a bit fringe. But there seems to be at least a kernel of truth to some of them, and it should be pointed out that Sgrena’s not just another unbiased journalist who’s always been taken as completely credible. She’s very clear about where she stands and the motivation is definitely there. Not some complicated, clever, diabolical plot. Very simple, easy to understand motivation. These theories have been around since long before her car was shot up last week, so it’s not just some moonbats suddenly flinging stuff out there. I simply wanted to acknowledge their existence without dragging the whole thing into my post. If you don’t like it, I can’t help it. My US$0.02 on the other theories you mentioned: JFK: Seems to me that *someone* besides Oswald all on his own did the deed. Regardless, the Warren Commission Report stinks to high heaven. Many of the theories are legit (as theories go), IMO. Moon Landing: I’d be willing to believe that we didn’t go if *any* of the evidence held up. It really doesn’t seem to. I would be 100% willing to believe that we would fake it to beat the Soviets if we had to. I don’t think we had to. Elvis: Again, no real evidence to support claims that he’s alive. But I don’t care, either. So I’d say some JFK theories hold about as much water (maybe even more) than the ‘Sgrena faked her kidnapping’ theories, but the moon landing and Elvis theories don’t. How about the theory that Italians are prime targets for kidnapping since Italy is a known payer of ransom demands?

  6. I personally believe without a doubt that the Americans walked on the moon, and I’m pretty sure Elvis is dead. The JFK thing is a whole other, tragic matter. I was just saying that these theories can be put forward by anyone, including you and me. But I seem to recall a ‘few’ people being kidnapped in Iraq, and a few of them being journalists. And the terrorists have shown no logic in their choice of victims (let me be clear, no one deserves what the terrorists dole out, civilians and US military included) This can easily be seen in the case of the Polish women who devoted her life to helping Iraqi’s, kidnapping of French reporters (again, kidnapping never makes sense, but if I were thinking from the terrorists standpoint, I would be less likely to pick up a French reporter). So, I am simply saying that it is MUCH more likely that she was simply kidnapped. About the shooting, I think even IF 400 rounds WERE fired (we haven’t seen comprehensive photographs yet), this kind of event can easily occur in high-stress zones, especially Iraqi checkpoints. (What with all the sucide car bombers)

  7. oops…sorry….that was supposed to say Polish woman up above, not women. and actually, to end my above ramblings, I think that this is a tragedy, but it is being made far too big a deal. These things happen in combat situations.

  8. Or, they could have called the A-Team.’ Well, if you have a problem, and no one else can help, *maybe* you can hire the A-Team. Apparently, though, the difficult part is finding them. ;) Maybe they should have tried the Los Angeles underground.

  9. These photos are weird: No entry holes to the bonnet either(that I can see anyway). It does not seems anyone was really firing at her. Thus this guy jumping in front of her to save her is a lie.. Interesting conspiracy theory here :) She shot the journalist herself, after he found out that she had set up the kidnapping, then drove at a checkpoint, waiting for warning shots- then stopped and blamed the US. (nice theory eh? he he)

  10. LOL I’m so sorry to all of those in the US for my UK english. (wasn’t my fault my parents decided to move here and not stay in the US)
