Two years ago, tired of bothering friends, family, and co-workers with unsolicited emails about politics and the approaching invasion of Iraq, I started a little website (called “Murdoc Online” as a joke) and stuck my thoughts there instead.
Ten months later, with only about 40 people (most of them personally known to me) visiting per day, I nearly hung it up. Even a link from the USS Clueless hadn’t boosted me out of the muck at the bottom of the blogosphere. (Not that there isn’t good stuff there–just that no one reads it…)
Then the XM8 post went up. #905, baby. And a legend in his own mind was born.
I had planned to put up a few special things in celebration, but I’m a bit under the weather and they’ve been bumped.
Anyway, I thank all my regular readers for, well, reading. And I especially thank all the readers (regular and otherwise) who have taken the time to comment and to email with tips, additions, corrections, and opinions.
I usually draw in about 1000 unique visits a day, and around 1500-2000 page views. That’s not a lot compared to some sites, but I’m quite proud and I think I’ve got a great group of knowledgeable regulars who add a lot to the discussion.
It’s been a great two years on MO and I will strive to make the next two years even greater.
And remember: If you’ve enjoyed reading MO just half as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it, then I’ve enjoyed it twice as much as you.
