For a while, Colonel

This from a This Is London story. An Iraqi colonel, captured and being held in a hanger at Baghdad International saw part of a news report where the Iraqi Minister of Information was praising Republican Guard units for re-capturing the airport.

He looked at his captors and, as he realised that what he had heard was palpably untrue, his eye filled with tears. Turning to a translator, he asked: “How long have they been lying like this?”

It’s not often that I agree with an Iraqi colonel, but media coverage of the war makes me want to cry, too.

And (funny, since I just mentioned the media missing the defeat of the insurgency because those left in Iraq are too busy looking for the Tet Offensive):
