Former Iraqi defense minister surrenders

A deal was worked out for Sultan Hashim Ahmad Al-Tai to surrender honorably and have his name removed from the 55 most-wanted list.

News of the negotiations first emerged Tuesday when Bagistani showed The Associated Press a letter to Ahmad from Petraeus, commander of the 101st Airborne Division, in which he promised to treat Ahmad with the “utmost dignity and respect” if he turned himself in.

This seems to be a move designed to show remnants of Saddam’s army that giving up the fight is a reasonable option. Let’s hope some of them see it that way.
