Far bloodier than expected

Casualties at Antietam

Haven’t seen anything on this today. It just suddenly occurred to me. Today is the 141st anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. US troops suffered 12,400 casualties that day, 2,100 killed. That’s more casualties than D-Day, and close to as many dead.

The enemy suffered 10,320 casualties. And they were Americans, too.

Nearly 23,000 killed, wounded, or missing. In one day.

One single day.

Which, by the way, makes claims like this just plain silly.
