When I first heard that a fourth plane had crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, I hoped that the Air Force had shot it down. I hoped, prayed actually, that we had been able to get to it. Although I’m a little skeptical about the whole heroes of Flight 93 story as presented to the public, there’s no doubt that it rallied a lot more people than a shoot-down would have. In any event, those people fought, and they struck what are really the first American blows of the war. Heroes.
