Rummy will stay the course

Rumsfeld Dismisses Resignation Rumors

“I have no plans to retire,” Rumsfeld said on Capitol Hill after meeting with several members of Congress to discuss the situation in Iraq.

The secretary’s comments came amid rumors and a news report that assert Rumsfeld would soon depart the Pentagon. “Those reports have been flying around since about four months after I assumed my post in 2001,” he said.

Calls for the resignation or firing of Rumsfeld seemed to be loudest around the time of the questions about armored vehicles put to him by Spc. Thomas Wilson. You know. The “You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want or wish to have.” incident.

Guess when that happened, by the way. It was one year ago today. December 8, 2004.

  1. Umm, bugs bunny’s 90th birthday? Lol, these people are amusingly ridiculous with that sinisteringly small sum of stupidity. Also Murdoc, could you make a post today on the death of Bill Yarborough. He died this morning, may he soar through the sky to meet his Maker. Airborne!

  2. yes, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might have prepared with two fucking years of lead time.

  3. Aaron: I can agree with you to a large degree. But the specific question he was answering was about up-armored vehicles and the furor in general included body armor. What if Rumsfeld and the Pentagon had asked for every Humvee and truck in the Army to be up-armored starting in late 2001? And then said that every single US soldier, including truck drivers, cooks, and mechanics, plus the entire National Guard and Reserve, needed top-line body armor? There is no way in the world that would have been approved. Sure, now everyone wishes that they had asked for it and that it had been approved, but you can’t realistically or honestly believe that it would have been.

  4. I want to see the day when Rumsfeld punches Kerry’s lights. That pompous, self-loving a$$ was on the Sunday shows pontificating on how he had called for Rumsfeld’s firing over two years ago. Like anyone gives a rat’s behind what he calls for. You lost the election, Francois. Get over it.
