Navy carrier choppers going down to two airframes

The earlier pic of the Sea Fighter reminded me that the Navy just received its first MH-60R helicopters. The MH-60R will eventually replace all the carrier-based SH-60B and SH-60F Seahawk helicopters.

In addition to this, the new MH-60S will replace all carrier-based CH-46s and HH-60Hs, bringing the carrier helicopter force down to two models. And that’s just part of it, as these two are closely related:

The MH-60R shares its cockpit with the Sikorsky MH-60S helicopter, allowing pilots to switch between the models with greater ease and train more efficiently. In addition, the commonality between the two models results in a leaner logistic support infrastructure, which translates into a significantly reduced cost of ownership.
