For satire and spoofery (is that a word?) to be truly effective, it needs to be so close to reality, or at least to people’s understanding of reality, that it’s almost difficult to tell fiction from fact. Just like the Space Shuttle’s main engines, good satire is reality dialed to 104%. Which explains the humor in a recent Scrappleface headline:
