Like many “Conservatives”, I hold Ronald Reagan in very high esteem. I know that many other do not feel the same way, but I can’t help it if they’re wrong.

Though he died two years ago, he lives on in many ways, not the least of which is one of the most powerful warships on the face of the earth:

Port Klang, Malaysia (June 3, 2006) – In an early morning transit, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) prepares to enter Port Klang for a scheduled port visit. This port call marks the first time Reagan has visited the country of Malaysia. Reagan and Carrier Air Wing One Four (CVW-14) are currently on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Maritime Security Operations (MSO). Also like many “Conservatives”, I wish “Republicans” were a bit more like the old Gipper…

UPDATE; More Reagan at Wizbang.

  1. If by ‘more like the gipper’ you mean ‘war criminals who cause and support the murder of innocent civilian’, the current crop of crap his him beat, hands down. They can all rot in hell.

  2. Aaron, you are such a ….. you’re so low I don’t even know what would insult you. I don’t know how you live with yourself. Nice to see you got your propaganda going early.

  3. By ‘a bit more like the old Gipper’ I think Murdoc wishes current Republicans were even a little conservative. I thought I was voting for conservatives, apparently not.

  4. I suppose Aaron feels the world would be better off if Communism was still going strong. Overpopulation would be less of an issue. Gee, I guess every cloud DOES have a silver lining…

  5. Nicholas, As a Democrat, Im a proud member of the party that defeated Communism.Perhaps youve heard of it: The Marshal plan, and Containment, Mutually Assured destruction. Perhaps you remember them from the result: the collapse of the Soviet Union? And we did this by sticking to our principles. Like not being a bunch of war criminals. And thanks for reminding us of do nothing dip shits like Republican Senator Joe MCarthy who were also always screaming about communism.

  6. Winning the cold war’ is like the economy. It’s pretty much impossible to assign credit for a good economy to the current president since economic decisions can have ramifications years and even decades down the track. The ‘Cold War’ went for about 44 years. Just because it ended in Reagan’s watch, I’m not convinced he was instrumental in it. (Actually I think Eisenhower did a lot of the initial work setting up the USA on the course for victory). However it seems to me he at least helped. If I were a Democrat, I certainly would not be proud of what my party has become. It’s done some good things historically but now is basically a cesspool. I find it revealing that you seem convinced that all Republicans are evil murderers and that Democrats did all the work to win the cold war. Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt, ya know?

  7. Luck happens when planning meets opportunity… or so goes the military maxim. Democrat’s planning- as in the marshall plan, containment, deterence, met an opportunity- a Soviet leader who didnt call for the most brutal of crackdowns. Freedom happened. Seems simple enough. Were there other people involved? sure. But the master plan: Democrats. And for the record I am convinced that the vast majority of Republicans are not murderers. Evil? You bet. Take Chad, above. Now I was standing up for American values- you know, thats its wrong to indiscriminately kill innocent people. And Chad seems to think that makes me ‘Low’. Becouse apparently, Chad believes I should support the slaughter of innocent people. like him. Republicans have pretty much inverted american values. human values. good values. Lets review some of those values: Good/American values: 1Limited chief executive, 2accountability 3honesty 4rule of law 5international leadership 6human rights 7protecting the innocent 8anti-corruption 9respect for the constitution. 0Opposiiton to torture And compare them to the decepticons actions: 1. president has ‘inherent authority’ to do anything so long as he says the magic words:’national security’ 2. Why is Chertoff still head of DHS? 3. Where are those WMDs? 4. illegal wiretapping. 5. idiotic french bashing 6. rendition 7. guantanamo bay 8. no-bid contracts for halliburton 9. free speach zones. a limitless executive. illegal wiretapping. attacks on the independance of the judiciary. ‘Nothing here but a bunch of worthless IOU’s’. (that would be the 13th amendment) 0. Cue to Gen. Hayden’s CIA nomination: Senator: Is ‘waterboarding’ an acceptable interrogation technique? The correct answer is ‘No’ so you know, his answer is anyting but. ‘Let me defer that to closed session, and I would be happy to discuss it in some detail.’ Heyden. I think it was the 2nd circuit that refered to torture and those who commit it as ‘enemies of all mankind’. and the republicans support them.

  8. Nicholas, the cold war didn’t end on Reagan’s watch, it ended on Bush 41’s. The reason Regan deserves much of the credit for it is that his rebuilding military forced the USSR to do the same, bankrupting them. Sure, lots of people/events helped this come about, but Reagan hastened the demise, and deserves great respect for it. This was by no means his greatest achievement. He brought us back from a downwardly spiraling economic disaster, and made America a place to be proud of again. God bless the Gipper. Aaron, let go of the hate, or you will suffer mental problems when you get older. Where is the love, Aaron? Where is the love?

  9. No, Aaron, I called you low for dragging a man’s name in the dirt, then saying that he should rot in hell. Would you like rational responses to some of the above? That means you actually have to look at evidence, not just react emotionally. 1.) As head of the executive branch, National Security IS the president’s responsibility. 3.) Read the book ‘Disinformation’ by Miniter. We’ve found tons of WMDs or materials used for WMDs in Iraq. Our soldiers have been attacked by chemical agents. 4.) The wiretapping was legal, and was allowed during Clinton’s sojourn, it’s only illegal if a republican does it. 5.) I have never heard the president say anything negative about the french. Sure he makes generalized remarks about whether our allies are willing to help us, but I think you are confusing general public sentiment with something president never said. 6.)So let me guess, you believe the lies about China treating it’s citizens better than America does? 7.) The prisoners at Guantanamo eat better than I do on average. They are there due to their actions. They plotted to destroy our nation. That is illegal here. The koran in the toilet allegations are bogus, and that’s proven. So what have we done there that’s wrong? Is it the lack of trials? They are of valuable military intelligence value, and have proven that time and again, when released, these prisoners revert to violence and murder. 8.) Halliburton, KBR et al. are the only companies in the world with the ability to do what needed done. Clinton gave them bunches of no-bid contracts in the former Yugoslavia. Didn’t hear any whining then. Once again, only a republican can be guilty of that. These are just the ones I can give you info on off hand, but feel free to comment on President Bush on a thread about President Reagan. BDS, there should be a drug for it.

  10. We’ve found tons of WMDs or materials used for WMDs in Iraq. ‘ ROFLMAO Stop Chad, your killing me. Hey, remember when the Decepeticons went on the anti french offensive- and they were refering to france and germany as the ‘cheese ‘ and ‘chocolate’ making countries, and how Condoleeza explained how we were going to ‘punish’ them? good times… And that would have been the Carter military buildup- not the reagan military buildup, becouse it started under carter. m1, m2/3, b1, f-18(?) minuteman…. Clinton did it too? Uhm, no. Clinton did not allow illegal wiretapping. Clinton did allow certain no-warrant searches, in the national security context (i.e. against foreign agents) that was not covered by FISA. He then pushed for the amendment of FISA so that those searches were covered by FISA and provided that the FISA court would rule on each such warrants in the future and that legislation passed. And the Reagan economic good times? Well thats a myth. Carter had turned around the economic slump in his presidency and the economy had begun to revive. Just not enough in time for the election. Overall Reagan/Bush1 economic progress was weak. And who can forget Reagans greatest gift, that we still enjoy today? A ginormous national debt! Oh and as head of the executive branch, national security is not the presidents primary responsilibility. Protecting and defending the constitution is. Okay, enough silliness.

  11. OK Aaron, that’s fine. Believe what you want, but maybe you should read the book before you laugh at what the troops have found in Iraq. We’ve found tons of materials that were ready to be used in ‘dirty’ bombs, chemicals to create nerve agents, and two times our troops have been hit with sarin. Don’t tell me there’s no WMDs. Read the book. Oh, and is not the constitution the foundation of this nation? National security is the President’s (or should be) concern, because his job is the head of the executive branch. That makes national security and law enforcement his primary job.

  12. Oh, and btw, Clinton used exactly the same program for wiretapping that is currently in use. Same laws, same apparatus, same tools. And once again, look at the evidence rather than emoting your claims. READ THE BOOK, we’ve found tons of materials classified as WMDs or WMD making material by the U.N. in Iraq. Mostly bought from the French or Russians. READ THE BOOK.

  13. I dont have to read the book. You know why? Becouse the Bush administration isnt singing about whatever crap your shoveling at every opportunity. You think they cant get press coverage? The New York Times routinely publishes claims by senior white house officials. anonymously. On the front page. and national security is every Americans responsibility. For the president its secondary to the constitution. To review: 1. Uphold Constitution. 2. Everything else. And again:Clinton- What Clinton actually signed which was intended to legislate what he actually did: Section 1. Pursuant to section 302(a)(1) [50 U.S.C. 1822(a)] of the [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance] Act, the Attorney General is authorized to approve physical searches, without a court order, to acquire foreign intelligence information for periods of up to one year, if the Attorney General makes the certifications required by that section. That section requires the Attorney General to certify is the search will not involve ‘the premises, information, material, or property of a United States person.’ That means U.S. citizens or anyone inside of the United States.
