VF-31 Tomcatters win trophy for most improved battle efficiency

Tomcat Squardon Earns Arleigh Burke Award

vf31.jpgCmdr. James Howe, VF-31’s commanding officer:

They need to call somebody, they call “Felix”.

To take those old birds, run them at the tempo required to suppot OIF, and win this award is truly amazing, no?

The ‘Cat is going, but she ain’t going quietly…

  1. Here is a link to the best Tomcat site I’ve seen yet. I like the patch, ‘Hornets by mandate, Tomcats by choice’. This is where they talk about the Super Tomcat. The reshaped leading edge of the glove would have acted like the leading edge strake on the F-16. It would have given the F-14 some amazing high-aoa performance, and the vortices would have been far enough outboard of the verticals so as not to cause them to depart the airplane (unlike the F-18).

  2. Ah yes, home of M.A.T.S., they’ve been around with heaps of good info for a long time. I see they’ve dramatically improved their appearance though :)

  3. It’s a pity that an inferior airplane is becoming the Navy standard for purely financial reasons. And that the days of Navy pilots having a superior jet to their Air Force counterparts are over.
