Israeli troops launch raid deep into Lebanon

Israel is in a two-front fight and Wizbang reports that a declaration of war may be in the offing.

RAMAT DAVID, ISRAEL – JULY 12: (ISRAEL OUT) Israeli warplanes land after taking part in mission in Lebanon from Ramat David air force base on July 12, 2006, Ramat David, Israel. An assault on Southern Lebanon was launched by Israel following the capture of two Israeli soldiers.

If I’m reading the tail number right (looks like 55), that’s an F-16D Block 30E from 109 Squadron. The Israelis call the F-16D the Barak (Lightning).

This could potentially lead to something big (and scary). It could be some rather justified payback against Hezbollah and Hamas and establishment of far tighter border security. Or these events could be the prelude to a strike against the potentially-nuclear Iran, a nation that has vowed to wipe Israel off the map.

The F-16Is Soufas are probably fueled and loaded, ready to head over to ol’ Persia if called on. Their extended range won’t be needed on these two fronts.

  1. Not Iran – Iran is US’s problem. Isreal is going to takeout Assad to make a point and isolate hamas.

  2. Hopefully they will give the Bakar Valley a very thorough bombing. We should have done it years ago.

  3. Shipmates, The Lion of Judea was perfectly content to lie down and slumber, swatting it’s tail to flick off the occasional flies that pricked it. Looks to me like the neighbors poked it one too many times with a stick and the Lion decided to take a swipe at them. I hope it mauls them seriously. Respects, AW1 Tim

  4. Did you notice Egypt, Jordan and Saudi giving Israel the green light by blaming Hizbollah/Syria. Biggest complaints (other than Iran/Syria) are from Russia/France.

  5. Godspeed to my Israeli brothers (and sisters) in arms. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war…
