Today’s clueless comment on the military

Just got this comment regarding the Jon Carry banner:

What exaxtly are our armed forces doing in Iraq that they have the spare time to consruct a thirty foot long banner?

Or were they on orders to make the gigantic bannner?

Ah, yes. Orders from on high came down to make a big banner. Yawn. It’s yet another Rovian plot.

Next we’ll be hearing about how banner construction is distracting the military from the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Apparently, the commenter has never heard that war is “interminable periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror.

My guess is that the banner was constructed during one of the interminable periods of boredom.

UPDATE: Malkin notes the coverage this is getting.

skerry.jpgMeanwhile, Blackfive isn’t buying Kerry’s apology.

I just cannot fathom why anyone would even DREAM that Kerry would say anything negative about US troops.

Comments

  1. Of course they are bored! One of these days, we will get to fight another war in a place where women and booze are readily available. Until then, we’ll keep making our damn banners.

  2. Definitely a comment and question from a libtard that has never even watched an episode of M.A.S.H. I thought that was part of the required courses at most liberal colleges. Ahhh, that must be the problem, that piece of flotsam must have been too stooped to get in–

  3. WTF? The commenter thinks the troops should be kept busy 24/7 and not have any personal time? Apparently he thinks they don’t have permission or the ability to do anything on their own initiative either.

  4. Well I’ll try to be charitable to the person. A lot of the civilians really have no idea what a soldier does. A lot of them subconciously believe it’s some kind of chain gang enviroment (maybe this is the root of some of them believing only some poor, disadvantaged idiot should/could be in the military. Strange how they bounce from this opinion to the other extreme, that military people are some type of baby murdering mercenary, coldly calculating and reveling in bloodshed. I also saw both opinions expressed during the Vietnam period. You’d think after two generations liberals would have evolved their thought process at least some).

  5. A lot of the civilians really have no idea what a soldier does. A lot of them subconciously believe it’s some kind of chain gang enviroment…’ JD, you might be right, but WTF they do not shut up if they do not understand anything about the real world. In fact, I would suspect that the commenter was upset because the guys made fun of his/her ugly hypocrite idol. IMO, the lack of sense of humour shows something.

  6. ‘One of these days, we will get to fight another war in a place where women and booze are readily available.’ Bram, Do a FES (Field Expedient Substitution) NO BOOZE……USE AFTERSHAVE. NO WOMEN…..’WALK A MILE FOR A CAMEL.

  7. I saw on ABC news this morning the assault on the military has begun. They did a hidden camera piece on the recruiters. Did you know sometimes recruiters lie? Gasp. I recognized it right off as their way of saying, ‘look Kerry was right, these aren’t the brightest people in the military.’ It is absolutely shameful. Do they think we are all really so stupid that we don’t see through their crap? A little while back I spent a week at an Air Force base testing some new software with aircraft maintainers and flight engineers. Great people all of them, extremely bright and motivated. It was my privilege to be around these young men and women. How bastards like Kerry and his buddies at ABC news can make statements like they do about these young people is absolutely beyond belief.

  8. You guys hit the nail on the head: I don’t know what going on from the soldiers perspective on the ground in Iraq. Several million dollars(OUR tax dollars) spent every day, and for what? All you hear in the news is another one of America’s sons or daughters killed by an IED or an AK while on patrol. Or worse, another busload of civilians rounded up, shot one by one in the head and dumped in a river. According to the State Department, major reconscruction is over, and Iraq has a municpal system that’s worse than it was under Saddam. October was the worst month for American soldiers in years. How much of the violence in Iraq is caused by ‘al Queda types’? How much is Iraqi against Iraqi, Shitte, versus Sunni? The sectarian violence is 1500 years of religio-socioeconomic complexity that we can’t hope to solve with bullets, bombs or banners. Hell, the only thing the Iraqi elected government has been able to agree on was a condemnation of Israel when the Lebanon conflict got going. How many of those sprawling, pizza hut-equiped Forward Operating Bases are in Iraq? What percentage of our troops live out their days of deployment behind those razor wire walls? I read MO because I DON’T agree with 90% of he says. I actually want to hear opinions different from my own. Can we have this coversation? Can we do it without resorting to name calling or low rent pychoanlyzing(Kerry is my IDOL?)?

  9. Avarice: Ignore ‘all you hear on the news’. The news, especially on this issue, is completely ignorant. Completely and intentionally and defiantly ignorant. They INSIST upon ignorance when it comes to Iraq. So pretty much discount most of what ‘the news’ has to say. Of course all you’re going to hear about are dead US troops. Many of those filing the reports are basically on the other side. If they’re not, most of them aren’t reporting the news, they’re merely filing stories sent in by stringers. Stringers who know what sort of news makes the headlines and, therefore, pays. CNN happily airs propaganda footage supplied by insurgents yet big media shies away from embedding reporters with US troops out of fear that the reporters will become ‘tainted’ by getting to know our soldiers. There are currently 11 (count ’em) embedded reporters with US forces in Iraq, and not all of them work for US news organizations. So there is absolutely zero chance that any meaningful news concerning the activities of US troops can possibly be reported. Anyway, a stupid comment asking how is it that US troops have time to construct a banner when there’s a war on shows an amazing level of ignorance about even the very most basic level of the life of deployed military personnel. It has nothing to do with tax dollars or this war or reconstruction or Pizza Hut-equipped FOBs. It shows a total lack of even the most simplistic understanding about how soldiers everywhere of every nation for all of human history have lived. Expect ridicule if you say ridiculous things.

  10. How many of those sprawling, pizza hut-equiped Forward Operating Bases are in Iraq? What percentage of our troops live out their days of deployment behind those razor wire walls? I dunno. Specifically Pizza Hut? Four or five? Maybe more. It doesn’t matter. When you’re deployed for about three years out of the last five, living in tents, or a coat, or a dirt hole, then having a little crappy goat cheese pizza, living in a trailer/steel box or some really slow internet seems pretty goddamn posh. And percentage of soldiers? Who knows? Maybe 20? I have no idea. And going outside the wire doesn’t mean what you think it means. I went outside the wire constantly for three months but had almost no contact with Iraqi’s. Now I’m inside the wire and see and deal with Iraqi’s all the time.

  11. I actually want to hear opinions different from my own. Can we have this coversation? Can we do it without resorting to name calling or low rent pychoanlyzing(Kerry is my IDOL?)?’ Avarice, I doubt that we can have a conversation on ‘ridiculous issues’ (quote Murdoc). It is a waste of time, and Murdoc made it clear for you already. I personally do not care if Kerry is your idol or not, and I did not want to make any kind of psychoanalysis. Simply, I have been offended by your comments almost as much as the US troops in Iraq should have been by Kerry’s comments. Especially, I did not appreciate the lack of the sense of humour. OK, you might have no idea about what the life in the military means, but in this case, please do restrain yourself from discussing this kind of issues.
