Gerald Ford Dies at 93

Just over a month ago, he became the oldest living ex-President in American history.

Not that it should really matter today, but I still don’t think naming the next class of aircraft carriers after him is the right move. My guess, though, is that his death will only strengthen the case of those trying to make it happen.

UPDATE: More, including pics, here.

  1. I still don’t think naming the next class of aircraft carriers after him is the right move. Me – I’m in favor of naming warships after ‘stuff’ not ‘people’. Arizona, Constitution, Enterprise, Hornet, Wasp … those are proper names for a republic’s warships. Okay, I’ll relent and say that warships named after bona-fide heros are cool. But not politicians for goss’sakes.

  2. At least Ford actually served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier. That makes it at least partways appropriate. Have you considered that eventually we will run out of ‘good’ president names. Are you ready for the Millard Fillmore Carrier Strike Group?

  3. Oops. I should have read the comments to the other post first. Someone beat me to the CVN Fillmore idea. Sorry. Well there is always John Tyler. ‘Tippecanoe and a carrier too.’
