Galactica renewed again

I’ve been a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica since it first aired in late 2003. Not that I like everything about it, but I do believe that it’s probably the best television series I’ve ever watched and better than all but the very best science fiction films. If you like sci-fi, you should at least check it out. I don’t watch much in the way of regular television, but this show is at the top of my short list.

Anyway, it’s been renewed for another season.

Also, there’s this:

a major character will be unmasked as a Cylon before the end of the season. And if my BSG mole is to be believed, it’s not Starbuck.

Actually, I’ve been waiting for this for some time, often asking my wife if the end of one episode or another would suddenly reveal who the next one is, generally leaning toward Starbuck due to her two periods in Cylon captivity. I have strong concerns that the revelation of a major character being a Cylon will damage the show, perhaps beyond repair.

The two previous plot points that I was very concerned about were the shooting of Adama and the President’s cancer. Neither was handled greatly, in my humble opinion, but both cases were satisfactory. Hopefully the writers will pull off a similar acceptable storyline concerning the near-mandatory unmasking of one of the core characters as a Cylon.

Here’s one way Murdoc would think about doing it, based on my one-time theory about Starbuck: A very important character (Adama, Apollo, the President) is revealed to be a Cylon. But.

But it’s a ruse by the Cylons. They manufactured a new series of Cylons to match said character after the war started and their adversaries were revealed. The character in question on Galactica is actually the real deal, but who will believe it after discovering Cylons that look and act just like them?
