Marines getting more hand-me-downs

USMC Thrives on Army Surplus

Strategy Page:

The U.S. Marine Corps is getting another 80 M1A1 tanks from the U.S. Army. Previously, the Army has given the Marines 144 of these tanks. In the past, the Marines would buy all their tanks from the same manufacturer that produced them for the Army. But after the Cold War ended, the U.S. Army lost over a third of its personnel, and had a surplus of M-1 tanks…The Marine Corps normally has a force of about 400 tanks, but they are expanding that, and using freebies from the Army.

Read the whole thing for more info on modifications the Marines make when they receive Army tanks.

Not mentioned is whether or not the blue coolers come from the Army or if that’s a special Leatherneck upgrade. From a previous Random KABOOM pic:

A US Marine Corps (USMC) Marine M1A1 ABRAMS Main Battle Tank (MBT), 2nd Tank Battalion (BN), fires it main gun into a building to provide suppressive counter fire against insurgents who fired on other USMC Marines during a fire fight in Fallujah, Al Anbar Province, Iraq. These Marines are participating in Operation AL FAJR, which is an offensive operation conducted against Iraqi insurgent forces as part of a Security and Stabilization Operation (SASO) carried out during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Seriously. Don’t ‘F’ with the US Marine Corps. They’re always looking for excuses to do this sort of thing. If you give ’em an inch, they’re likely to give you 120mm.

Twice, if they’re in a place with no beer.
