Cowards, hypocrites, liars, and corrupt

Well, America, here’s your new Democratic Congress for you.

House and Senate vote to set a deadline for America’s defeat, funded by votes bought with pork.

They said that they would provide patriotic leadership, but their votes say otherwise.

They said they wanted to do the right thing in Iraq, but their votes say otherwise.

They said they supported the troops, but their votes say otherwise.

They said they would end the corruption in Congress, but the way their votes were bought says otherwise.

For a mere $42 billion [oops, only $41 billion – my bad] of your cash, America, they’re selling out your troops and everyone that sided with America against tyranny and terrorism. Not only whores, but cheap whores. They’re trying to sell the war for a bit of cash.

Murdoc would like to apologize.

For the past six years and more, (and since this site started over four years back) I’ve bashed Republicans for their petty politics and their outright corruption. I’ve been hard on President Bush and his administration at times because I thought they weren’t doing everything they could or should for America and for the cause of freedom. I’ve claimed that they were not serving the Conservative ideals that got them elected.

Even though I believe my position was correct, I’ve been wrong to say so out loud.

As horrible and terrible as Republican leadership has been, as corrupt and self-centered as those in power have behaved, they don’t hold a candle to the Democrats.

I’ve argued with a lot of Conservatives that some of the Democrats’ points were valid. I’ve argued with a lot of Conservatives that maybe it was just as well if the Republicans suffered for their behavior in the 2006 elections. I’ve argued with a lot of Conservatives that the Democrats couldn’t really do a whole lot worse.

Murdoc was very terribly, horribly wrong.

Veto this damn bill and make damn sure we don’t let anyone forget who is gleefully trying to sell us out.

I was really holding out hope that the Senate would reject this thing. I was really holding out hope that I wouldn’t have to go over completely to the Republican side.

But, unfortunately, as of tonight I utterly reject the Democrats. I oppose everything they stand for if it’s at odds with the Republicans. The Republicans aren’t good. Not at all. And I don’t particularly like standing shoulder to shoulder with them.

But this move to legally demand a defeat on the battlefield is morally, ethically, and patriotically reprehensible. I don’t care if it’s just a big stunt. I don’t care if it’s a maneuver to get the pork through while everyone argues over the Iraq deadline. They publicly and officially are calling for defeat and they must be stamped out.

Too much is at stake to let the Democrats make any meaningful decisions.

I am so ashamed.

I didn’t think I’d ever be here.

Comments

  1. Bush better be ready to roll or step aside and put someone who is in place. ‘don’t question thier patriotism’ is what got US here. Allowing 4yrs of steady unchallenged Sedition & undermining of a active war go US here. Allowing ‘tell a lie enough times it becomes truth’ in the form of ‘Iraq is a failure’ harping from the left got US here. It is time to face the fight and stand on the battlefield HERE in the US we have no other option. It sickens me we have sacrifised so much over there to only lose over here at the hands of our so called ‘fellow americans’?

  2. C-Low, I’ve actually been quite a ‘I question their patriotism’ sort of guy, but I guess I’ve been too naive to see that siding completely with the Republicans is the only way to keep the Dems from destroying us. I wish we could stop this stuff the right way, but, since I don’t think we can, I’m perfectly willing to stop it the wrong way. Because ‘stopped’ it must be. Personally, I let the means get in the way of the end. Too damn idealistic, I guess.

  3. Murc I was not knocking you I know you are solid I am a longtime visitor. And I don’t think refusing to be held hostage with the WOT while the Repubs ran all out Big Government Graft operation was bad. In the longterm we need to keep the party honest. My ire was directed at the mistake the Republican leadership made back in 04′ when the ‘we don’t question their patriotism’ became the baseline for argument from the Repubs and all those repulse that did dare were ostracized for it. Even thou it was obvious to all of us paying attention they were deliberate (maybe political maybe anti-American maybe other reasons) but deliberately undermining an active war effort. Now we are were we are and first thing our leaders need to do is realize the past mistakes of not calling a spade a spade and carry on the good fight. Again not knocking you Murc I know you are solid. I just like you am pissed and venting some fire. I don’t buy the unchallenged claims that the US people don’t support the WOT (they are questioning it due to the LLL’s constant Sedition that is unchallenged so you gotta wonder is it right?) I have actually heard that multiple times. The majority of the US pop don’t have the time to do the research to know better all they have is the media and Dems constant unchallenged harping Failure failure failure. I would like to see a national vote straight up, The WOT should the US A) Do whatever it takes to win WHATEVER or B) Surrender and begin negotiations for terms of surrender with the Radicals. I would bet my left hand that would poll through the roof and it is the only real question. You just cannot give up on a plan in motion without a alternative choice settled on that will achieve the goals Victory (end of attacks on US by Radicals). Most Americans fully understand this we just don’t have any leadership with the balls or ability to voice it to em.

  4. No offense taken. If anything, I’m angry at myself for being played a fool. I thought I was holding the rational position that made the most sense. In an idealistic universe, I think I was pretty close. But this is the real world, folks, and when fighting for survival you fight to win because you’re playing for keeps. I’ve been a fool, and I don’t doubt that I’ll still be foolish in many ways. But being fooled into thinking that there’s little difference between Democrats and Republicans won’t be one of those ways.

  5. Benedict Arnold was frustrated and disaffected with the American side of the Revolutionary War in no small way due to his own personal failings. As a consequence, he betrayed the Revolution. Now his name is synonymous with Traitor. The Democrats are frustrated and disaffected with the American side of the GWOT/Islamist War Against Civilization/Western Defense of Freedom/etc in no small part due to their on personal failings. As a consequence, they betrayed the United States. (And a number of them did it for 30 pieces of silver, which brings up a whole ‘nother comparison) Fortunately for those who are now running around clucking that the sky is falling, Arnold’s treason did not result in the loss of the Revolution, and he died a poor outcast. History does not treat traitors kindly.

  6. The democrats did an important thing by returning to power – their victory resulted in Rumsfeld submitting his resignation. Without that, there never would be a ‘surge’ and I doubt that David Petraeus would of been put in charge. The hopeful part of me, hopes that Bush can hold it together long enough to have Petraeus’s plan bear substantial results. If he can, then the Democrats would of signed their own death warrant. While I cannot stand some of the republican views on social policy and science funding, republican views on the long term really important matters of defense, economy and foreign relations lead me to hope for the rise of moderate republican contender.

  7. Unfortunately losing elections is painful and in this case necessary. If the republicans don’t change and go back to the conservative ideals I support, they will never again get my vote. With the current crop of republican candidates, 2008 does not look good. I can’t believe I am actually beginning to think we will have to deal with another Clinton. If the illegal aliens get amnesty, we might not ever win a presidential election again. Just look at how California went from being a steady republican state to a state where we have no chance at all to win. Once Florida gets tilted to the left, which is close, I don’t see how we can ever recover. We spot the democrats too many big states before the election even begins. Why do the republicans just sit back and watch an invasion and do nothing. The democrats can’t believe we just allow half the world into this nation who will vote overwhelming for them. The democrats know traditional Americans are not with them so in effect they are ‘electing’ a new electorate to ensure their ascension to power. Even if the republicans don’t think the illegals will vote democrat, how can this possibly be good for security? I read an article on Monday that 600,000 illegals who were ordered out of America are unaccounted for. Maybe I am wrong about the border issue. Maybe Al-qaeda has made a deal with us not to attack through the Mexican border if we leave them alone in Pakistan. Anyways, what happened in congress today is just a taste of what’s to come. Unless the republicans come to their senses, solidify the base and get back the ‘reagan democrats’, I am afraid of the brave new world that awaits.

  8. Never apologize for criticizing the people in power, even those of your own party. If it is wrong for one party to do, it is wrong for the other party to do. Apologize for being a zealot for a bad cause. Apologize for not standing up for a good case. But to apologize for standing up for a good cause, just because it results in an unintended consequence is just wrong. The Democrats should be honoring their promises. Just like the Republicans should have been honoring theirs. Until both sides start living up to their promises, and representing the interests of the people and not their own self-interests in keeping their jobs, people need to be demanding that they do their job.

  9. The Democrats are frantic to lose this war prior to the next election so they can pin it all the Republicans. Then, after a big win in 2008, they can lead us towards a Socialist paradise.

  10. All of those 118 Representatives, and 50 Senators that voted for this bill should be immidately brought up for impeachment due to violation of their oath of office. The congress has NO POWER TO DICTATE THE PROSECUTION OF A WAR. If you read the constitution, you will find out that thier power is LIMITED to funding or defunding the war ONLY. The excutive branch alone has the athority to decide on a time table. Its part of the separation of powers. By voting for this bill they have voted for an UNCONSTITUIONAL act and thereby have broken thier oath of office in which they swear to UPHOLD AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION. Bleeping traitors ought to be shot, but I’ll be satisfied if they just get FIRED/Impeached/jailed.

  11. Similar to Murdoc, I haven’t the slightest shred of love for the Republican party. However, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So I will be voting Republican across the board in 2008. Disgusting.

  12. Congrats Murdoc, and in the words of Rush ‘Welcome Home’! Funny how real life strips the facade away from the faces of our enemies from time to time. Many people, some even here on this thread, think that the Dems are foolish and naive about the dangerous position they are placing our country in. That they should keep their promises. There may be some Dems, but for the most part, the Dems DO KNOW this, and are taking advantage of this situation to tear down our country. The Dems ARE keeping their promises. Their promises have been made to an ideology that is in direct opposition to the ideals that have made our country great. To that end, they are fulfilling their obligations by supporting our enemies.

  13. Funny you see how the Dems might ruin this country but you can’t see that the Reps ARE ruining this country. This war isn’t about freedom or safety. They are spending our tax dollars, losing, and making a killing through their defense and oil contracts. Wake up Neo Con.

  14. Big diff in dems and reps. The reps have successfully pulled off a coup in 2000 and 2004. They’re going to try again too. They appointed a bunch of political hacks to be US Attorneys. So when they steal Tennessee, Ohio or Florida in 2008, those hacks won’t even look into the voter fraud. And in areas where they need to, they’ll have those prosecutors throw out a bunch of Dem votes and who’s going to look into it? The fix is in. Thank god we are on to it and thank god Alberto Gonzalex is as bad at his job as he is at lying. If you are a Republican, you are either ignorant about what’s going on or you are completely Un American. Which are you?

  15. Hey, get a clue. Dems only have a small majority. All we can do now is stop Republicans from passing anymore bad bills or spending any more of our money needlessly. We need more seats and we will win the Whitehouse, if you don’t steal it again. Mid term elections don’t have as many seats available like in 04 and 08 election years. We didn’t even think we’d get the majority back because of that. That makes us taking back power that much more amazing. Anyways, a lot more seats will be going to the Democrats in 08, so relax on our progress. We’re doing much better than the last majority. That’s all you need to know. Right now, we don’t have enough votes and Bush can veto our bills. We can’t impeach because we don’t have enough votes. On Iraq, we need more republicans to realize stay the course is going to cost them their jobs. Pork you say? Running out of time? Support the Troops? The last time Bush asked for this money, the Republican controlled Congress took longer and put in much more pork. Look into what pork Republicans put in their bills vs. what Pelosi put in this one. Republicans are evil liars. Bush doesn’t like pork now? They increase pork spending x 15 in the past 6 years. I’m just trying to figure out if you believe your nonsense or if you are just clueless.

  16. Nick, you forgot to mention that Republicans throw live children into the fiery belly of Bal during their worship services. How gauche of you to be so forgetful. Your rants are a good example of why I don’t vote for democrats. You may think you have the right of it but all I see is a bad case of paranoid delusion. The fact that you can’t see the problems in your own beloved DNC simply adds more weight to your partisan delusions.

  17. Hi JD. Many of my Republican & independent co-workers question my one sidedness too. Basically, they haven’t been paying attention enough to know what they are talking about. Want proof? Look at what Chuck Hagel is saying about his own party. YOUR PARTY! ‘The Republican Party has been ‘hijacked’ and led away from its core values’ Here is more proof you are brainwashed. I liked Reagan, as I’m sure you did too. I voted for Daddy Bush too, as I’m sure you did too. So why did you vote for him in his second term? Because the Republicans can do no wrong in your mind. Talking to you is pointless. You won’t change no matter what. If you voted for W in 2004, then that is all the proof anyone needs. If you are rich, I don’t blame you for voting Republican. If you are not, you have hurt me and yourself. You just don’t know it yet because Bush hasn’t sent you the bill yet. Don’t blame Hillary when she cleans up his mess!!!

  18. Couple more things. I’m paranoid? Why do you think Alberto Gonzales ‘can’t recall’ 75 times? Fact is JD, back before the 2007 election, we knew Republicans were committing voter fraud. But, the Republican majority wouldn’t investigate. Bush fired Republicans who would not falsely prosucute Democrats and he also let go Republicans that prosecuted Republicans for corruption. These are facts sir. If they can’t recall, then we can only assume they have replaced those prosecutors with political hacks. BUSHIES as the White House calls them. They want to fix another election. If not, what do you think it’s all about? The fired prosecutors were not fired for job performance, but that’s the reason Alberto gave. It’s obvious why!!! And we’re going to give Monica Goodling immunity to testify. And what about Scooter Libby and the Velerie Plames leak? What was that about? I’m paranoid? I think you are so one sided that you would let the Republicans get away with anything. Did you have a problem with the lie about Monica Lewinski and getting a BJ? But you are ok with WMD’s & Saddams connection to Al Queda? You are ok with Republicans telling us the war is going great when it was not? Are you ok with them deleting all the emails going to and from the White House? Didn’t you have a bug up your rear regarding Gore making campaign calls from the White House? Don’t tell me people like me are why you don’t vote Democrat. If you mean people who tell the truth and know what they are talking about, then I agree. Keep voting for Republicans. If you are rich, I don’t blame you. I think you are selfish, but can’t say you are wrong. If you are middle class, then you are only hurting yourself. Outsourcing, hiring illegals, no stem cell research to cure your alzheimers, unfair tax breaks to the rich, keeping wages down, housing market crashed when Bush’s tax breaks were supposed to fix everything, defend a failed foreign policy, etc. It’s a good economy if you are rich. Meanwhile the middle class is feeling the pinch.

  19. The Republican Congress of 2005-2006 spent record amounts. That’s a fact. Even Republicans are admitting this in the debates. Do you also know that last year, the Republicans met in a closed session where they slipped into the Patriot Act a new rule that Bush can appoint Federal Prosecutors without Senate confirmation. That’s what this attorney firing thing is all about. He wanted to put hacks in place for the 2008 election. YOu tell me why you think Bush replaced them in the mid term if not that? And don’t use Alberto’s excuses, because they have been proven wrong, all of them. They also slipped in the patriot act that they can search your home without a search warrant, they can tap your phones, even American citizens, and also, they can take away your right to Habius Corpus. Yesterday a leading Right wing Blogger was on Thom Hartman’s show and he didn’t even believe these things were slipped into the Patriot Act. Maybe you guys don’t realize all the shady things that your leaders have done? I’m beginning to see a lot of my right wing friends are ill informed.

  20. Well, America, here we go again. Another 100 billion of our $ wasted on Iraq, Haloburton and Blackwater. House and Senate had to give Bush what he wanted because he threatened if they did not, that he would tell the American people that they stranded our troops in Iraq without supplies. I think they should have called his bluff. Bush says if we leave Iraq, they’ll follow us home. That’s a joke. He says if we leave, things will get worse. Fact is, we are making it worse. Ever wonder why Bush wants to stay despite what EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD THINKS? Because he, the Oil Baron’s and Defense companies are making a killing!!! Same reason he wanted to sell that port to Dubai. Remember even Republicans told him not to make that sale? That’s because they couldn’t spin that to their constituents. But they can continue to lie to us on why we need to stay in Iraq. Too bad no one is buying it anymore. Unfortunately though, we are still stuck there. We can’t overide Bush because the Republicans in Congress/Senate are still loyal Bushies. And we can’t impeach him either, because Bush only appointed totally loyal Bushies to be Federal Prosecutors. The only good ones with honor, he fired. Are you going to tell me all of what I am saying is lies and propoganda? Funny how you didn’t use one fact to disprove anything I said. You just called me a conspiracy theorist and left it at that? ‘tyranny and terrorism.’??? You sure bought what they sold you, huh Murdoc? Most of the people we are fighting in Iraq are Iraqi’s. Bush lied to you and said they are mostly terrorists. Don’t you know the Brits called Washington a terrorist and traitor too? Bush is so wrong. The only thing negative I can say about the Democrats is that they are wussies for giving Bush another blank check. Are you making a fortune on defense & oil investments? Chances are no, but you are probably rich, so you have been taking advantage of Bush’s tax breaks. So you are ok with the middle class paying more and making less, if it means you make an extra $100K a year. I’m sure a lot of people would make that choice if given the chance. That doesn’t make it right. But I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at the middle class people you suckered into thinking Bush is the right choice for them. How stupid are they? And we won in 2000 and in 2004. Your party is also planning on stealing 2008. That’s why Monica Goodling, Rove, Bush, Kyle Sampson and Alberto Gonzales fired those experienced prosecutors and replaced them with political hacks, or Bushies as I like to call them. So if you are reading this and not a millionair like Mr. Murdoc, remember, he’s doing well under Bush, at OUR EXPENSE. Cost of everything is going up because of Bushanomics and our wages have gone down or stayed the same. We sacraficed for the last 6 years. Murdoc made a killing. 21. So are we going to stay in Iraq until terrorism no longer exists? We need to get out of the ‘war’ part of this occupation. The IRaqi’s need to be fighting this war. We’ll back em up with our tanks, blackhawks and bombs, but we aren’t going to patrol the streets and continue on this course that is NOT WORKING!!! How dare us set a timeline or benchmarks to measure the Iraqi’s? They like that we are dying and patrolling. And, they don’t want us there either. We just don’t want an anti American government evolving. Well then maybe we should have left Saddam in power. He was the only reason this country was under control. He was anti Iran. We gave Iraq to the 80% Shiites and now Iran and they will team up and Bush made everything worse. If I didn’t know how you Republican hypocrits said all the same stuff I’m saying, only you were saying it during the Serbian war. Your leaders said, ‘we are losing, we need to get out, we need to cut off funding, etc.’. But it wasn’t true back then. It is now though. None of this is going to make us safer or lower the price of gas, and you know it. Clinton ruled and Bush is the worst president ever!!! Carter was better. Carter only lost because of the October Surprise. Wykapedia that if you don’t know what that is. And then look up the Iran Contra Affair and tell me if you don’t believe Bush Sr. in the CIA struck a deal with Iran to keep the hostages until after the election. Then we sold them weapons. That’s right, the Republicans sold THE ENEMY weapons. Google that too. Look up Ollie North.

  22. 5 months later and all the GOP candidates are distancing themselves from Bush. Why? I thought he was doing a great job? And did you see all the weapons that are missing AGAIN in Iraq? Did you see the bridge collapse? Too bad we can’t work on our infrastructure because we are wasting all our money in Iraq. Too bad we don’t have a great leader in the White House. Now spin it and tell me how its the Democrats fault.

  23. CONGRATS ON YOUR PURCHASE OF THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. NOW YOU CAN SLANT THAT LIKE YOU DID FOX NEWS. YOU HELPED HIM SELL US ON GOING TO WAR WITH IRAQ AND ALSO HELPED HIM STEAL THE 2000 ELECTION. NICE. WHAT A PATRIOT.

  24. Luckily for America (and both parties) we see an attention span here that doesn’t seem very likely to actually get a ballot to the ballot box…
