Disabling automatic image resizing in Firefox 2

This might be a no-brainer to some, but just in case you’re as dense as Murdoc is…

After wiping and reinstalling my PC, I couldn’t figure out how to turn off automatic image resizing in Firefox 2. My previous installation had been an upgrade from an earlier version of FF, and I had disabled the “feature” in the options menu of the earlier version. But when I installed FF2 clean, no option was to be found in the new menu.

So here’s how to do it:

1. Open FF2
2. In the address bar enter: about:config
3. Copy and paste this into the filter line [or scroll down to]

browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing

4. Double click the preference to change the value from true to false

Found at Tech-Recipes.

UPDATE: I was also having trouble getting one of the Microsoft security updates to install with Automatic Updates. It was the Security Update for Media Player 6.4 (KB925398). Why I needed this, I don’t know. But it wouldn’t install. I kept getting “Update unable to install successfully” errors. I finally downloaded the standalone update from MS and it went in fine.

  1. Murdoc, I have a problem with your posts on the main page disappearing until after the whole page has loaded. Even then, if I put my cursor on a link, it disappears. This only seems to happen in IE 6.0, but not in IE 7 or Firefox. Any chance you can fix that? My work computers use IE 6, and I am not at liberty to change that.
