World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism
by Norman Podhoretz

  1. That’s too bad about the redheads. I read a similar story about blondes going extinct in 200 years. Everybody celebrates ‘diversity’, but where’s the diversity in a planet filled with dark-haired, dark-eyed people? It will be like that episode of the Simpons where Homer is in India trying to find Apu’s cousin who is medium height with dark hair and dark eyes. BTW, I have dark hair.

  2. I thought it was Blondes who were set for extinctshun? Not worth worrying about, the way things are goin though alot of folks by 2100 will have pink, blue, purple, or green hair just ’cause they can. It’ll be just like that UFO tv series form the 70’s. That was cool forthe time. anyway, it is still Caturday…sharez!

  3. I thought I was weird because I have brown hair and a red beard. But after watching the special features on the Firefly DVDs I noticed Joss Wheedon does too. I guess it isn’t that rare… my grandfather has red hair. While we’re posting random Saturday-related links, here’s what I did on Caturday. I built this. Boy my soldering sucks, but it works! It steps down and regulates voltage with up to 5 amps of current. Turning the potentiometer adjusts the output voltage.

  4. Defens – Random thought in the middle of the day. This one might be up your alley. A cooling boot. Take your standard combat boot – slice the sole off. Line the bottom of the boot with a silica bases heat shield. Attach a thin thermoelectric cooler – in the front 2/3s of the boot and the rear third with a small vacuum pump. Yes, this thing would suck power, so I would envision that this rig would be used to help gunners. (Ehey could plug in to the vehicles electrical system for power.) Power issues aside, the miniature components for such a set up already exist for laptop computers.

  5. James, I don’t see why you couldn’t add it as a feature of the gun itself. You could cool the handle and even surround it with a vacuum pressure vessel. Not that your shoe idea wouldn’t work, but in some cases they might want more mobility than that kind of shoe would provide. Maybe a combination of cooling the bottom of the shoe and the gun handle would mean you wouldn’t need the vacuum, which would provide better mobility all around. I sent the link to that article to some F-22 cockpit design friends too.

  6. Nicholas, you need a little higher wattage soldering iron. Those joints look a little on the cool side. Even so, that looks like a very nice power supply. It is very compact. Ok here’s my link: Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles. The former North Carolina senator told a forum by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, yesterday he thinks Americans are willing to sacrifice. Edwards says Americans should be asked to drive more fuel efficient vehicles. He says he would ask them to give up SUVs. Edwards got a standing ovation when he said weapons and equipment used by America’s military needs to be made in the United States. He says tanks and ammunition for M16 rifles are being made in other countries. He says jobs that provide equipment for America’s defense need to be made in the United States. The Republicans are going to lose big in the next election because they will abandon conservative ideas like this to Democrats.

  7. So what are you going to do, Bram, cancel the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines? Or are you saying they are working just great? Yeah, back in the ’50s when government worked, you could talk like Goldwater did, but what the hell are you going to do today, outsource it all? You think you’d have Goldwater on your side if you recommended that? Hell no! He’s probably flipping over in his grave right now watching as we send our factories to f’ing communist red China, a group he never had any use for, and outsourcing our weapons. One more thing that I’m sure would make Barry as sick as it does me is watching people drive around in SUVs while paying the people who are killing our boys to keep gas in the damn things. I can think of no time as long as the US has been in existance that such a thing has not constituted treason.
