OEF Casualties by Month

In a comment on the relatively low number of US troops killed last month (and the attendant lack of media attention to the fact), a reader pointed out that the number in Afghanistan seems to have crept up.

He’s right. 17 US service members were killed in Afghanistan last month, up from 5 in April and 11 last May.

Looking around, there doesn’t appear to be a simple month-by-month table of this, so I threw one together using numbers from icasualties.org. If anyone spots anything wrong let me know.

I plan to add in columns for other nations’ troops soon, but it you happen to know of a good site that already has this info, point it out.

Table is below:

  1. From your chart it looks like April 2005 was the beginning of something. I wish I knew. Unlike Iraq I only know 3 names, Karzai, Mullah Omar and Osama. The first is the good guy and the other two are either dead or in permanent hiding. So who is leading the OPFOR? Is it AQ, taleban, drug lords or a combo? I just haven’t seen much coverage of what is going on there. Plus I cannot stand to watch too much tv news as it has become nonstop Obama worship.
