UPDATE: Five American bloggers detained by China

Five American blogger-activists and a foreign artist have been detained in Beijing as the government intensifies a crackdown on pro-Tibetan protests in the home stretch of the Olympics, rights groups said on Wednesday.

  1. yup American companies are not immune from “selling out to the highest bidder”.

National pride is trumped by the Yuan, Euro, Sen, Ruble, Etc.

You could see the rot starting when they began shipping parts for everything from cars to polo shirts South of the boarder to be assembled.

  2. I have not watched a single moment of the Olympics, and I have no regrets about it. None. Zip. Nada. I find the fawning press reports and media coverage to be no better than those who commented about how nice Germany was since that good Mr. Hitler took office.

It is bad enough that I am forced to purchase some items from China, since I cannot find anything close being made in this country. At least football season is up and running with pre-season games underway.
