You know, I’m wondering why we aren’t seeing more of those “Didn’t the McCain team vet Sarah Palin?” stories. Is it maybe because nothing they’ve turned up in nearly a month seems to stick at all?
It doesn’t have to stick. It just has to be repeated enough that people start to accept it as fact. For a similar reason that once a person, usually a man, is publicly accused of rape, people will always remember him for that, even if he is completely exonerated. People remember the shouting, vitriol, and scandalous accusations, now the reasoned rebuttal.
