Iraq: Total US deaths in September: 25.
That’s up 2 (8.6%) from August and down 41 (62%) from last September. This was the lowest total for the month of September since the Iraq campaign began in 2003.
17 of the 25 September deaths (68%) were classified as non-hostile. 7 of them were in a helicopter crash on the 18th.
Afghanistan: Total US deaths in September: 24.
That’s up 3 (14%) from August and up 16 (200%) from last September. This was the highest total for the month of September since the Afghanistan campaign began in 2001.
Only 1 of the 24 September deaths (4%) was classified as non-hostile.
Clearly, though casualties only tell part of the story, Iraq is getting much better and Afghanistan is getting much worse.
