In his 1958 science fiction novel “Have Space Suit – Will Travel“, Robert A. Heinlein tells about an organization called the Federated Free Nations. It is a successor to the United Nations and the League of Nations. It apparently has, like the UN, a Secretary General and a Security Council, but no other details about its organization or operations are given. Too bad. Maybe we could have learned a few things. After all, Arthur C. Clark wrote about communications satellites in geostationary orbit way back in 1945, and they turned out to be pretty cool.
