Does that ever bring back some memories! Not that I was strolling through the poppy fields............from Aug '06 to Jan '07 I was running a PSD Team for "Large Overseas Contractor" on their BLANK Program (civil affairs counter narcotics advisory in nature), providing protection to two CN Advisors to the Kandahar Provincial Governor. Here they (the Advisors and their Local National Team) were, trying to educate the Provincial Government power structure on the scourge of poppies, heroin, etc, as well as tabulate poppy production in our province, and provide alternative cash crop literature and education to local poppy producers, blah blah, blah.........and every day as we drove into work (about 10 miles from our camp outside of Kandahar) we'd cruise by all these poppy fields (beautiful when they're in bloom as in the photo above)!
