My wife is a "non-fan". Not exactly coming in cold, she started with TNG and only got a little taste of TOS and really wasn't a fan of either. She LIKED this movie...had her crying in the first 15 minutes, not to mention that she appreciated the action and internal continuity.
As a long time fan, I loved it...a worthy successor. I think Roddenberry would be proud...or at least more proud than he would have been of many of the spin offs and attempted reboots in the past.

I saw it……………it reminded me of modern music videos where no scene, image, or thought lasts for more than a few seconds.

Agreed. I don't much care for that style, but it's pretty much become the norm. I didn't think this was as bad as most.

As for the "previous history" element, I was wondering what a non-fan coming in cold would think. They wouldn't have the resistance to changes that fans have, but I think this movie may have confused them as much as anything.

In all fairness, that's probably a tough line to walk when rebooting a favorite.

At least with the all the previous history; they didn't have to waste too much time on character development (for those who got less than their 15 minutes of fame in the movie).

Fascinating, Captain. The series continuity has been effectively rebooted, while leaving the original canon intact.

Furthermore I agree with everything AFSarge said. Good flick, worth seeing. Lots of call-outs to the fans.

Yeah, good flick. I went with a buddy who is'nt a Trek fan and he liked it too. We both laughed, I was surpised how funny it was, good mix of humor, action, and back history. like how they cleverly folded in the alternate universe stuff too. Well done.
