Dirka Dirka Burka Burka

Nice:

U.S. Marines trapped Taliban fighters in a residential compound and persuaded the insurgents to allow women and children to leave. The troops then moved in — only to discover that the militants had slipped out, dressed in women’s burqas.

  1. Yep, that’s the Muslim Taliban / Al-Quida / etc.
Real men when it comes to beating up the helpless (women, the elderly, children, etc).
But when it comes to a real fight with real men, they have to go and hide behind (in) their women’s skirts, er, burkas.

Didn’t something similar happen several years ago? Some (US? Israeli?) forces had some Al-Quida trapped in a mosque. The cowards called for their women to come and rescue them, by using the same tactics above. Then the friendly forces were accused of shooting the Al-Quida “women”.

  2. Ahmm…isnt the burqa trick quite old already? Shame on the troops for getting fooled by it.

  3. I’m with Victor. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

And then there is also the fact that both sides use propaganda. (The use of which I support whole heartedly, BTW).

  4. Jaymaster,
You’re right. This would make an EXCELLENT propaganda piece.
“Local Taliban so afraid to fight, that they escaped while wearing burkas. Nice legs, guys.” And then include whatever the local equivalent of “spineless craven crawling yellow coward” is.

  5. As for the “fooled” bit, I have to wonder if the Marines suspected (or even knew) exactly what was going on but were not authorized to do anything about it. They did not have a female along to check the Afghan women, so ROE precluded them checking under the skirts.

I’m not saying that’s how it *should* be, I’m just saying that’s how it *is*.

  6. B Woodman,

Exactly. And I can think of at least 7 other reasons why it’s a good story to report.

But just in case Al Qaeda, Taliban, NOKO’s or other enemies are monitoring Mo (and if they were smart, they would be!), I won’t go there…

  7. And BTW Murdoc, I loved the Team America reference. I’m going to have to watch that movie again this weekend. Those guys nailed it!

  8. Funny story………….when I was in the Stan, we routinely joked about Burka Babes. We’d make cracks about going to the Kandahar Hooter’s on Tuesdays for T & A night (toes and aankles), keeping a Burka handy in case our PSD vehicle got hit and we had to e & e across the desert, and whether it was really a woman in the burka, or some bearded Taliban dude with efeminate ankles surreptitiously moving about Kandahar. LOL! Guess the bleepers were really doing it after all! 🙂
