I’m reading The GPS Handbook by Robert L. Egbert and Joseph E. King. Just started. In Chapter 2, Equipment Options, they write
GPS receivers integral to cell phones: While this is uncommon today, the regulatory push to make all cell phones locatable for 911 purposes means that cell phones will fairly soon make up the largest set of GPS receivers.
Maybe they should have written “…regulatory push to make all cell phones locatable for post-9/11 purposes…” [insert maniacal laugh and anticipitory hand-wringing]
At least this is the sort of thing that couldn’t be abused by, say, John Ashcroft.
