The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (Quicktime)
A music video by Leonard Nimoy. Yes, that Leonard Nimoy.
While not physically painful like William Shatner’s “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” this one probably violates several human-rights treaties.
Much like Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant” or Warrant’s “Cherry Pie,” “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” recounts an epic tale of adventure. That would be the story of J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” for you non-readers in the crowd. Nimoy, however, manages to fit into two minutes and 18 seconds what took Tolkien hundreds of pages. And Tolkien didn’t even use a bassoon.

Yowza.
