Iranian-made Saegheh fighter jets fly over the mausoleum of late revolutionary founder Ayatollah Khomeini, during a military parade ceremony marking the 29th anniversary of the start of the 1980-1988 Iraq-Iran war, just outside Tehran, Iran, Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. An Iranian military plane crashed into fields just south of Tehran early Tuesday, according to the state IRNA news agency, saying the plane flew in the air force show that was part of the parade, but there was no immediate word of casualties or details about the plane. “Saegheh” apparently means “thunder.” Though, in this particular case, it may also mean “barreled fish.”
Here’s a little more (though not much) on the crash.

The word “Thud” comes to my mind….
Yep, i think “Saegheh” is Iranian for “thud” too…
I can just hear those honda lawn mower motors, as they fly by
Looks kind of like a starfighter. If memory serves, those things were extremely fast. That could come in handy when a battle starts and they want to flee to another country.
These are obviously F-5s. The Q is, are these that twin-tailed version previously fooling everybody at M.O.?

Certainly don’t appear to be. I scrolled through a bunch of other pics of the event and didn’t see any of the two-stabilizer variety.
Good article on it on Wikipedia:

They appear to be the twin-tailed Iranian F5-derivatives.

[...] Been real busy but was sent this by a reader about the Iranian aircraft crash noted previously: [...]
If they were just copies and no more, Iran would have been better off drawing on Swedish and to a lesser extent French originals. That’s for parts reasons and because of the design considerations those countries had. It’s possible that – beneath the surface – there are real differences aligning these aircraft more with those than with US ones.
