		<description>Any book that claims Thompson invented the SMG named after him should be immediately dismissed.  The actual designer of the weapon was Auto-Ordnance engineer Oscar V. Payne.

&lt;i&gt;Northrop has a contract with the Navy to provide all remaining maintenance to the ship until it is decommissioned in 2012.&lt;/i&gt;

Wow, over $600 million to refit this ship for just 2 deployments over 2 years.  And this won&#039;t include the actual operating costs once it goes out on those deployments.  I think this money could have been spent wiser.</description>
