This Agnostic Atheist Activist (to let you know I am not some Bush “puppy dog” and Vet says: WRONG!

What ended up happening in Iraq is EXACTLY what those of us who supported the war expected would END up happening.

Was “the Bush admin. & Co.” wrong about NOT sending in sufficent forces to deal with the failure of Iraqi police and civil authorites? Yes, they were. And they made other errors as well. ONLY without some magical “crystal ball” many of the problems could not be forseen.

Not only is this WRONG, it pisses me off YOU have the GALL to tell others what they thought!

I’m afraid Blacktail is right. I seems like we’re going to have to grit our teeth and ride out this Administration like we did during the Carter years.

I also agree with the theory Obama is (and will continue) to make decisions based on not what’s good for any given situation or the country, but what’s good for him and the Tovarish’s he runs with.

That was part of a strategy called “Pile-on”, which itself was re-used in recent wars disguised by the new title of “Shock and Awe”. Stark-raving overkill hurts our side more than theirs, because massive quantities of bombs and jet fuel cost money that USA doesn’t have.

On the other hand, only 2 bombs dropped in several hundred sorties doesn’t achieve anything either.

It’s easy to tell which polar-opposite, zero-sum mentality is presently in charge of the War On Terror based upon which of these insane extremes is being used; Pork-Mongers and Chest-Beaters want to drop everything we have all the time, while Peaceniks and Casualty-Phobes don’t want to drop anything at all.

Assuming Zilch-bama actually does take any action, it’ll be WAY too late, and some stupid “throw the people a bone” stunt — not unlike Johnson’s Vietnam “Troop Surge” (which was recycled by the last administration, with even less impressive results).

In ‘Nam, that was a minor sortie.

In WWII, that was close to the number that went astray in a sortie and caused collateral damage.

Being ridiculously wrong on the wars is not a trait restricted to one party or the other. Don’t get me wrong, the Dems were ready to give up at every opportunity, and undermine it at all the others. But the degree to which the above mentioned were wrong in their assessments just illustrates how utterly unpredictable the game of war is. The Bush admin. and Co. were utterly wrong about what would happen in Iraq after the fall of the government there, and were amazingly ill equipped to deal with it. But few saw the path that Iraq would take because of it. And even the most ardent supporters of the Surge didn’t even dare to hope for the complete turn around that it would help precipitate there.

So to me, the main lesson is that there are no safe choices, or sure things. Leadership just has to make one and let it play out. However, the factors used to make the choice should be the chances of strategic success, and the question of whether it’s worth it in terms of money spent and American dead. Instead the current administration seems to be using political cost as the main influence in their decision making process.

I admire Pelosi, yes she may be whacked and terminally stupid, but at least she can make a decision or least flip flop. At this point I am not sure that Obama can make the decision to wipe himself without having a focus group bless it. This fiddling over a “solemn” decision just ridiculous.
