My son called home from FOB Shank, in Afghanistan to say he’s well and things are going swimmingly. He’s a tad bored, and I tried my best to explain to him how much of a good thing that is.
He got his Christmas presents in time, and he’s with good people, so I feel better. His unit is making their 3rd deployment there, and the men are VERY well trained, and combat experienced. Still, as a parent, I worry, as did my father for me, and his father for him, and on down the line.
But it was a wonderful thing to talk to him, especially on Christmas day.
