Strykers coming to America’s Army video game

War game designers get Stryker taste of real thing

An April update to the America’s Army online video game will feature the Stryker. Game developers visited Fort Lewis in Washington state last week to get a first-hand look at what the new vehicle is all about.

The soldiers they observed Friday are part of the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division – the Army’s second Stryker brigade. They will soon follow the initial wave of Strykers – the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division – to a real combat zone in Iraq.

The game developers will use video and still images for reference when they return to their Monterey, Calif., studios to create 3-D worlds and weapons. Interviews with soldiers might lead to changes in depictions of Army life and traditions in the ultrarealistic game.

I’ve been meaning to download the game and give it a look. Now I’ve got a reason to do so. (“It’s research, honey.”)
